IGF-1 Assay Range for Comparison

I've recently learned of an IGF-1 assay range issue, and thought it would be interesting to post the range used for me. It is from January of 2012. I was 35 years at the time this assay was used, and my IGF-1 was 283 ng/mL, growth hormone (ICMA) was 0.721 ng/mL, with a range of <=6 for all ages. My UCSF endocrinologist wanted me under 1 ng/mL for growth hormone.

Good morning! My name is Clarisse, I live in France next to the German border, I was diagnosed with Acromegaly last september. I found your blog and have created one myself (all in French I'm afraid): www.parlezmoidemoi.blogspot.fr
I had an operation on November 20th in Germany to remove my 1.6 cm macro-adenoma. I was lucky enough as the adenoma was far from the "dangerous spots" like optical nerves or other vital points. So the surgeon confirmed last week with my latest MRI that the tumor was totally removed.
Still my IGF1 is at 350 (was at 1300 before surgery) instead of 250 according to the reference I got. But as you mention, is the reference accurate?
What I can tell is that just like you my face has dramatically unswollen and that is a positive sign for me. Also seems so far like my acromegaly has not had any other bad side effects on my body other than increased body extremities...
We'll be keeping a close watch at my IGF1 but until today I have not had a single injection or medication (apart from Minirin further to post-surgical diabetes insipidus which is gone now since beginning of January.)
Anyway I wanted to say Hi and congratulations for your blog. It gave me a lot of hope after I discovered my illness!
Keep it up! thanks!

Hi Clarisse! Thank you for your nice comments. I'm so glad to hear your surgery went well! Acromegaly really is a manageable disease, frustrating but manageable. Follow your instincts and stay on top of your treatment. I'm so glad I could be helpful. Blogging has been a great way for me to learn more about Acromegaly, and to help me deal with the disease personally. Learning there are so many others we can turn to online for information and support is a great thing. Good luck with your treatment and take care!

Hi Jenny,

Well, I'm off work again. It has been 7 weeks. I will be off for a while 6months + as I will be starting a new treatment plan. My 60mg of Sando is not quite cutting it. I'm good maybe 10 days when I get my injection (every 4 weeks) so that being said my Endo has decided it's time to try something new. I will still use Sando but a 40mg/4weeks and will introduce Pegvisomat 10mg daily. My next injection is due next week however, I am waiting for the new program to call me to arrange training etc.... My hope is that I will feel good for months without feeling any acro symptoms creeping back. My last IGF-1 (Oct 2012) was 297 which is at the higher range of our so called range. If this new plan is not successful in decreasing my IGF-1 levels well we will be seriously considering Radiotherapy. Just wanted to share as I also hope that one day my life will not revolve around this disease. Oh, I also read this morning that Tanya passed away. It was shocking reading this and it saddens me so because she was such a beautiful girl with her whole life ahead of her.
